Looking back over this module, I feel that I was able to find what I wanted to express quite strongly about. The Giant Paintbrush by Filthy Luker was an inflatable installation as a celebratory piece that was placed ahead of the City of Colours Festival. It is a slightly vague representation of the essence of the festival and the family friendly nature of the festival. I wanted to take on changing the choice of artwork to be used ahead of the festival because the medium isn't the "old school" traditional medium that associates with street art. I also wanted to change the place of where the work would be located to a location that emphasises the context and culture of the festival more than what the Bull Ring Shopping Centre can provide. The shopping centre isn't a physical area that makes any artwork related to the festival look as good as it could be. As my biggest interest is with illustration, I was curious to look into the world of street art and the processes that are taken in order to create the art works that are displayed throughout the city. It was quite a surprise to see that my work had progressed into minimalist street art, since that at the beginning of the project I was expecting to create a big and heavily detailed piece advertising for the City of Colours Festival.
I still don't feel a hundred percent about the progress and routes to take in order to get an understanding of the work but nearer to the end I was able to produce work that I was reasonably pleased with. Its been said that I've been known to try and find something interesting out of something I don't feel totally there with and I think that's because I never found something that truly stood out to me, even when I found something really interesting with the City of Colours Festival. There just was not much motivation at all as I progressed throughout this module unfortunately. I'm not someone who can easily juggle a module with other modules at the same time either so the timescale wasn't as good as it could have been. I had been so motivated and focused on the professional practice module that I often strayed away from this module as it didn't make as much of an impact.
If I was to have done anything differently with this module, it would have been to have kept looking wider and further for site specific art work that already exists as this would have probably sparked my interest a lot more. Another thing would have been to have gone back to the main points to consider when engaging with site specific art so that I wouldn't have drifted away from the context. Other than that, I don't think there was much else that could have been improved as I just generally didn't get along with the project very well so that slowed my motivation down quite a bit.
